Shawls, Mantles and Wraps
Shawls, mantles and wraps were made of fabric, knitted, or crocheted. They may or may not have been decorated with a fringe. Fancier shawls were made of lace and often times embroidered or decorated with bead work.
Coats & Paletots
Coats and Paletots were considered outer wear and were constructed from a wide variety of fabrics. Light weight for mild weather and heavier weight fabrics for colder climates. Coats were worn at several different lengths and were hemmed at the discretion of the wearer.

Capes & Pelorines
A cape is a loose fitting garment without sleeves. It may ormay not have slits as the sides for hands. A wide variety of fabrics and fabric weights were used for capes. They could be plain or very intricately decorated with trims, embroidery and occasionally beadwork.
